A Beginners Exploration
Have you heard about the myriad of benefits of Meditation including increased happiness, focus, and productivity, decreased anxiety, blood pressure, and need for medications, greater compassion, tolerance, and resilience. And the list goes on… Have you tried to meditate only to become discouraged by the endless different styles, apps, programs, and schools available, not knowing which is the “right” one? Would you like a simple and approachable meditation technique, along with proven tips on how to integrate a meditation practice into your daily life? Then this is the workshop for you! In this workshop, we will explore Mindfulness Meditation as derived from the Buddhist Vipassana tradition. Mindfulness Meditation is very simple in concept and can be learned in a step-by-step fashion that allows you to begin your practice and start reaping benefits immediately. We will discuss a little history and purpose of the practice as well as briefly review the neuroscience and tremendous number of studies supporting Meditation as a powerful healing practice. Then, we will move right into practice starting from the ground up! This class will be mostly seated but we will honor our bodies need to move with some standing and walking meditation as well. You will leave with the tools to begin your meditation practice immediately, including two downloadable recorded meditations to take home! Please bring a cushion to sit on and wear comfortable clothing.
