What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is a personalized, one-on-one collaboration between the therapist and the client, to maximize the clients Health & Wellness. A Yoga Therapy program utilizes the vast array of tools available through yogic traditions, to help bring balance and harmony to ones Mind, Body and Spirit.
These tools may include but are not limited to:
- physical postures (Asana)
- specific work with the breath (pranayama)
- focus and mindfulness techniques (meditation)
- hand gestures (mudra)
- intentional language (mantra)
- ethical suggestions (yamas & niyamas)
- lifestyle suggestions
- and more
The process of using Yoga as a therapeutic tool is not a “one-off” or “silver bullet” sort of method, nor is it suggested to throw out your current approach to wellness through Western Medicine. Deciding to work with a yoga therapist is the beginning of a journey that requires dedication, commitment, and a deep desire to find a sustainable way to manage ones own health and wellness. It is a path of Empowerment. It is not a promise of some fantastical state of bliss, but rather an Exploration into ones self, a Discovery of ones highest potential, and an Awakening to perhaps, one’s healthiest, happiest life. As with all journeys worth taking, it will likely involve challenges, but the rewards promise to be deep and powerful.
